I'd highly recommend DDLC Plus and the side stories. For one, buying DDLC Plus is a good way to support the developers. My understanding of the lore is as follows : DDLC is one of two simulations made by these developers (Salvato) to see how people would behave in a simulation to see if they themselves are in a simulation, which of course, they are.
