Basically, Kineticist has a lot of good 2A abilities that don't use the attack trait. You want to pair that with a class that has a lot of action freedom. Monk is really good at that because being able to Flurry -> Impulse is very handy. You won't be doing Elemental Blast much, but you'll want to leverage a lot of the 2A impulses.

The class itself, due to design space, doesn't really use alot of remaster rules except condition renaming and such so you should be able to allow it. This is unless you play on VTT.
