Aug 1, 2023 · Headlands Beach State Park was our 12th of the 88 state parks in Ohio that we've seen so far this year. We have a goal of seeing all of the state parks. There was a nice boarded walkway past sand dunes on the far right side of the park. This led to a view of Lake Erie and the Fairport Harbor Lighthouse. There was lots of driftwood on the beach.
Part of this unique environment, both common and rare wildlife become a showcase. Headlands Beach State Park is one of Ohio’s premier birding locations. Lake birds, shorebirds, and raptors take advantage of the park’s mix of habitats positioned along Lake Erie’s shoreline. Further, rare bird sightings are almost common here.
