The Transfer very graciously offered us a stall in the building for the work that was to come on #353. One cold day in February 1971, a group of about 12 loyal WMSTR members attacked the worn out behemoth with all manner of wrenches, bars, torches, and just plain muscle and in a long day stripped every bit of pipe, valve and gauge from 353.

Locomotive 1309. The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is home to the second-largest continuously operating steam locomotive in the world. Currently, the locomotive is under repair as we replace its 75-year-old pistons. This is no easy task and we are currently fundraising to help fund the project. The steam forging hammer used in the plate stamping process was hew in 1892 and was used by the Great Northern Railroad until 1970. ROLLAG 2021 - Threshing and Fieldwork. Check out the highlights from our 2021 show. We take our steam and gas engines out to the fields and demonstrate how it was done decades ago. While many of the concepts are still used today, this is a much more laborious and time-consuming task. Especially without air-conditioned cabs and auto-steer!I would sure think that this would be a good place to continue to post news and interesting tidbits related to WMSTR and be able to target membership more. (If we could just get members to actually utilize this forum more.)
