The problem : The temperature gauge on my 2008 Impala LS (V6) stopped working. The message "Engine Hot A/C Off" was displayed. The temp gauge was completely dead - showing no temp. I replaced the the coolant temp sensor and verified electrical continuity on the harness wires and the attached connector contacts that mates to the sensor.

One way to "reset" the outdoor temp sensor is to push the A/C button and the recirculate button at the same time. This button sequence should work as it works on my 07. Let me know if it does. Another way is to get out on the highway and get some airflow to the sensor; I have noticed this works but takes much longer.

Used OBDII code reader to see a temp sensor code (like 850 or something) but I didn’t care. Reset it and the needle immediately went to operating temp and I started the ice cold AC moments later.
