I am having a problem getting a 1917 bayonet to mount on the replica 1897 heat shield lugs I ordered from Taylor LLC. Difficult figuring exactly why the bayonet will not go on the lugs. Norinco 1897 trench gun heat shield keeps wandering forward under recoil. I plan on milling out the screw threads and taping for a larger size thread that will actually protrude more. I was wondering if that'd be a good idea as obviously without the mechanical advantage of the screws being in the grooves the clamping force isn't enough.
